Raiders Knock Off Texas, 24-10
AUSTIN, Texas - Dane Johnson returned the second-half kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to give Texas Tech the lead for good and the Red Raiders' Ricky Williams rushed for 131 yards in a 24-10 Big 12 victory over Texas.
The Red Raiders (5-4, 4-2 Big 12) trailed 7-3 at the half before Johnson's kickoff return. Quarterback Zebbie Lethridge added a one-yard TD run later in the period as Texas Tech built a 17-7 lead.
Lethridge completed 3-of-10 passes for 73 yards and also carried eight times for 18 yards for the Red Raiders, who remained tied with Oklahoma State and Texas A&M atop the Big 12 South Division. If Texas Tech wins the division, the Red Raiders will not play in the Big 12 Championship Game because of a pending NCAA investigation.
The loss was the fourth straight for Texas (3-6, 1-5), spoiling a pair of record-setting performances. James Brown passed for a school-record 397 yards while completing 25-of-45 passes, but was intercepted twice. Running back Ricky Williams had 80 yards on 21 carries, including a two-yard scoring run that gave him 122 points this season, surpassing Len Barnell's 1914 single-season school record by one.
Texas still leads the all-time series, 34-12.
