Bennie Wylie is in his second season as Texas Tech and first as the athletics department's head strength and conditioning coach. He spent last season as the head strength coach for the football program. Prior to his appointment at Texas Tech, Wylie was an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Dallas Cowboys. He worked with head rehab trainer Britt Brown and implemented rehabilitation for all injured players. Wylie spent the 2002 spring season heading the strength and conditioning program for the Dallas Desperados arena football team, a property of the Dallas Cowboys. Before working with the Cowboys, Wylie was the assistant strength coach at Sam Houston State University, where he was a four-year letterman in football from 1994-97. He was an All-Southland Conference running back as a senior in 1997 after averaging 4.8 yards per carry and leading the Bearkats in rushing. In 1994, he was named the Bearkats Freshman of the Year. He finished his course work while working in the weight room and graduated with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in May 1999. A Mexia, Texas, native, Wylie lettered in basketball, track, baseball and power lifting at Mexia High School. He finished third in the state power lifting competition as a senior in 1994. Wylie and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Lubbock. |
