Michael Brewer completed 21-of-28 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Black team to a 25-19 win over the Red team on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the 2012 Spring Game at Jones AT&T Stadium.

The annual spring game gives the Texas Tech coaching staff one last look at the squad heading into the final months of the spring semester and summer. The Red Raiders will return to their offseason workouts until the start of fall practice on Aug. 5.

The game got off to a quick start as the Red team needed just five plays to move down the field for the first touchdown of the afternoon. Junior transfer SaDale Foster set the tone on the first play of the game as he rushed around the left corner for a gain of 19 yards. Doege then connected with Aaron Fisher on a 26-yard strike that moved the Red team all the way to the Black 30. Three plays later, Doege connected with Marcus Kennard on an 18-yard touchdown pass to put the Red team in the lead 7-0.

Kennard finished the afternoon with five catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

The momentum swung toward the Black team in the second quarter thanks to a pair of Ryan Bustin field goals and a one-yard touchdown run by sophomore Ronnie Daniels. The late scoring gave the Black team a 13-10 lead at halftime.

Bustin had a stellar afternoon as he kicked three field goals (two for the Black and one for the Red) at distances of 49, 42 and 26. Overall, he was 3-for-4 on the day as he missed on his first attempt (52-yards) in the first quarter.

In the third quarter, the Black team put the game out of reach as Michael Brewer led a pair of touchdown drives that resulted in TD catches by Kennard (5 yards) and Fisher (10 yards).

Junior quarterback Seth Doege completed 25-of-49 passes for 217 yards while throwing for one touchdown and rushing for another. Doege tried to rally the Red team late in the third quarter when he engineered an 11-play drive that ended with him scampering into the end zone from five yards out.

Defensively, junior transfer Will Smith continued his strong spring season with a team-high six tackles and one interception. Smith recorded the only turnover of the afternoon and also picked up one tackle for loss. Delvon Simmons and Dartwan Bush led game with two sacks each.
