Moves Texas Tech's win streak to five over UTEP and the Red Raiders now lead the all-time series 12-6-1.
Marks Tech's fourth come-from-behind win (10-plus points) in the last 15 games and its second straight against UTEP. The Red Raiders defeated the Miners by a field goal (38-35) in overtime last season in El Paso.
CRABTREE SHINES AGAIN - SETS SCHOOL RECORD FOR A FRESHMAN
Cut the UTEP lead to 21-13 with 11:40 remaining in the first half when he hauled in a six-yard pass from Graham Harrell. The touchdown marked his fourth of the season after catching three last week at SMU.
Freshman Michael Crabtree turned in another big game for the Red Raider offense as he hauled in two touchdowns for his second straight multiple-TD game. He becomes the first freshman in school history to notch multiple-TD games in his first two games as a Red Raider. Crabtree finished the night with 15 receptions and 188 yards.
Hauled in his second TD catch of the game on Tech's opening possession of the second half. Caught a nine-yard pass from Harrell that cut the UTEP lead to 28-23.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
Sophomore running back Kobey Lewis scored Tech's first touchdown of the season at Jones AT&T Stadium as he scored on a one-yard run with 11:57 remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown came on Tech's first drive of the game and it marked the second straight week that the Red Raiders scored on their first possession.
After scoring on its first two possessions, the Red Raider offense committed turnover on their next two possessions. The first turnover was the first of the season for the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech surrendered 28 first-half points for the first time at Jones AT&T Stadium since giving up 35 to No. 1 Oklahoma back on Nov. 22, 2003.
Senior linebacker Kellen Tillman picked up his first sack of the season at the 1:20 mark in the second quarter.
Alex Trlica nailed a 45-yard field goal to end the first half which cut the UTEP lead to 28-17. The field goal attempt was his first of the season and he has now made five straight FG's dating back to last season.
Senior wide receiver Danny Amendola gave Tech its first lead of the night when he caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Graham Harrell with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter. The TD gave Tech a 30-28 lead and was his second TD catch of the season.
Senior receiver Grant Walker picked up his first career touchdown with 13:40 remaining in the game when he caught an eight-yard TD pass. The TD lifted Tech to a 38-31 lead.
Texas Tech has scored a combined 94 points in the first two games this season and that ranks third all time. The most combined points in the first two games is 136 set during the 2005 season.
Junior running back Shannon Woods pushed the Tech lead to 44-31 with 9:25 remaining in the game. The touchdown was his third of the season.
