Texas Tech Postgame Quotes
Red Raiders vs. TCU
Sept. 18, 2004 - Jones SBC Stadium

Senior Defensive End Adell Duckett
(On starting off 0-21) "The defense had to step up. The offense did a great job and fought out of a hole."
(On Coach Leach and the timeout at 0-21)"He just talked about how we need to play the last 30 minutes like we play the first 30 minutes. He gets fired up every once and awhile. Coach Leach is just Coach Leach.
(On the defense) I'm so proud of the defense. Dawson played excellent. Everyone played hard. We aligned and executed. We were hitting on all cylinders. Anytime you do that you're suppose to win.

Sophomore Receiver Jarrett Hicks
(On the game) "The biggest adjustment was execution, executing our offense and making routine plays. Once we go the first touchdown everyone played a little looser. Offense, defense, special teams, everyone started to play well. We weren't moving the ball well at the first of the game.
(On Coach Leach's timeout)"He got in my ear and in everyone's ear. The biggest thing he said was that we weren't executing."

Sophomore Defensive End Keyunta Dawson
(On his touchdown) "It was a hustle play. I saw the ball spinning on the ground. I picked it up and ran."
(On overcoming the 0-21 deficit) "You always keep working hard. Coach Leach says don't look at the scoreboard. Play with the same intensity whether you're up or down."

Head Coach Mike Leach
(On what he said during the timeout) "We were playing hesitant and tentatively. I told them we had tried that out and it wasn't working for us."
(On the comeback)"We came together simultaneously. We've done it in spurts against New Mexico. This time we did it on all three sides of the ball. At first, we were playing with 9 guys instead of 11 and digging holes with penalties."
(On the offense at the beginning of the game) We were streaky. We weren't selective. The defense won the game for us as far as keeping us in the first half."

TCU Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Gary Patterson
Opening Statement

"Let me tell you something right off, I have told you before that Texas Tech is a better defensive team this year and they are."

On Tech's Defense
"You have to give a lot of credit to their defense and special teams. The bottom line is our team did not step up to the challenge today. Tech is a good football team, especially when they play at home. We knew what kind of an atmosphere it was going to be."

On Stopping Tech
"It was not going to be about yardage, Tech's going to get the passing yards. It was going to be about keeping them out of the end zone. For the first twenty minutes we were a good football team and did that."

Quaterback Tye Gunn
About his play

"All game my ankle was bothering me, I couldn't plant and throw which was making all the balls fly high on me. I had trouble with that all game long."

How did the game get away?
"Well with Tech's offense you can't give them a short field. We had a couple of bad key drops and key bad passes right next to our own end zone. If you give them a short field you cant expect anything else."

Do you think this game will affect the rest of the season?
"No not at all. We just came in and had a lot of penalties and penalties will kill you. With Tech's offense you have to keep them off the field, and we didn't do that."
