LUBBOCK, Texas - On the heels of the 2002 NFL Draft, Texas Tech running back Ricky Williams signed a one-year free agent deal with the New Orleans Saints.

New Orleans has said they will use Williams as a slot back and kick returner.

During his four seasons at Texas Tech, Williams established himself as one of the top running backs in school history. He finished his career as the record holder in single-game rushing attempts (42 vs. Fresno State in 1998) and career rushing attempts (789).

He added another dimension to his game as a receiver when Mike Leach came aboard as head coach in 2000. Williams set the single-game receptions mark with 13 against North Texas last season and finished with 8.4 receptions per game. His single-season school record 92 receptions led the nation.
