Gamber Named Head Football Athletic Trainer
July 7, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - Arnold Gamber, who served as the head athletic trainer for football under coach Tommy Tuberville for 10 seasons at Auburn, has been hired in the same role effective immediately here at Texas Tech. "Arnold Gamber comes highly recommended as one of the top athletic trainers in college athletics," said Texas Tech director of athletics Gerald Myers. "We are pleased to have a person of Arnold's caliber and experience to head up the athletics training program for Texas Tech's football team." As the head football athletic trainer at Auburn, Gamber spent 10 seasons in that post between 1999 and 2009. While at Auburn he was responsible for all aspects of sports medicine care for the football team while also overseeing the football training staff. He served the department as the coordinator of NCAA drug testing and also served a term (2005-06) as the president of the SEC Sports Medicine Committee. "I worked with Arnold for 10 years at Auburn and he and I have a great working relationship but most importantly he has great relationships with our student-athletes and puts their safety and well being above all," said Texas Tech head football coach Tommy Tuberville. After leaving Auburn in 2009, Gamber served as the director of athletic training for the Hughston Foundation located in Columbus, Ga. Gamber's first full-time athletic training position came in 1989 when he joined the staff at Georgia Tech University as an assistant athletic trainer in football. During his time in Atlanta, he worked as a part-time assistant for the Atlanta Falcons Football Club as well as a host athletic trainer and AFC representative for Super Bowl XXVII in 1994. His work as a part-time assistant with the Falcons led to a full-time opportunity in 1994 and he served as an assistant athletic trainer there between 1994 and 1997. Following his tenure with the Atlanta Falcons, he served two seasons as the head athletic trainer at Middle Tennessee State University.
Gamber is part of a staff reorganization effort in the athletics training program and will oversee the sports medicine group within the football program. Steve Pincock, who will begin his ninth season with football this fall, will serve as the assistant athletic trainer. Gamber and Pincock will be assisted by second-year graduate assistants Brennan Powers and Steven Reynolds. Mark "Buzz" Chisum will serve as the athletic trainer for the cross country and track and field teams and replaces Todd Faison who left Texas Tech to serve as the head athletic trainer at his high school alma mater, Lubbock Estacado. Gamber is a certified member of the National Athletics Trainers Association and a member of the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association and Southeast Athletics Trainers Association. He is also a past president of the Georgia Athletic Trainers Association (1992-94). He is married to the former Jamie Sadler of St. Martinville, La., and is the father of two children, Britt and Joslyn. |
