LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore quarterback Davis Webb has been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, an award given annually to America's college player of the year since 1937.

Webb is the fourth Red Raider quarterback since 2005 to be named to the watch list, joining Seth Doege (2012), Graham Harrell (2007-08) and Cody Hodges (2005).

Webb is one of 33 quarterbacks in the nation on the list and is one of just nine players from the Big 12 Conference that made the prestigious watch list.

Webb played in 10 games as a freshman in 2013 (6 starts) with 2,718 passing yards on 226-of-361 passing with 2,718 yards and 20 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

He broke seven Big 12 Conference freshman records, including 400-yard passing performances (4), passing yards in a single game (462 at West Virginia) and passing touchdowns in a season (20) to name a few.

He finished his freshman season leading the Red Raiders to a 37-23 upset over No. 14 Arizona State at the National University Holiday Bowl in San Diego. Webb went 28-of-41 for 403 passing yards with four touchdowns without an interception.

Webb was named a College Football News Freshman All-American (honorable mention) and received numerous national and conference player of the week awards during his freshman season.

The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's selection committee, which analyzes both past performance and future potential. The Club reserves the right to make additions and deletions to these lists as the 2014 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, FBS head coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for the awards.
