Doege Makes Walter Camp And Manning Award Lists|
Doege now on watch lists for four national postseason awards.
July 20, 2012
Preseason honors for senior quarterback Seth Doege continue to roll in as he was named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year and Manning Award ballots earlier this morning.
For Doege, this moves his preseason national honors list to four as he was previously named to the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien watch lists. The Walter Camp watch list includes 10 players from the Big 12 Conference while the Manning list features five league quarterbacks.
Doege, the NCAA passing leader in 2011, is primed for a huge senior season as he returns the nucleus (nine starters) of an offense that ranked 13th nationally in 2011 with an average of 470.58 yards-per-game. Doege's top wide receiver and running back targets are back in 2012 and that group should help give Texas Tech its most potent offense in the Tommy Tuberville era.
Last season, Doege threw for 4,004 yards along with 28 touchdowns while averaging 333.7 yards-per-game. He completed 68.5-percent of his passes and threw just 10 interceptions in 581 attempts. Another 4,000-plus yard season and Doege could move all the way into third place on the school's career passing yards list behind Graham Harrell (2005-08)and Kliff Kingsbury (1999-02).
The Walter Camp watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November. The 2012 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 124 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, December 6. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation's annual national awards banquet on January 12, 2013 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.
The Manning preseason watch list recognizes top quarterbacks in the nation based on previous collegiate performance, however, every quarterback in the nation remains eligible for the honor. Additional quarterbacks may be added to the Watch List after the start of the season. The list of 10 finalists will be released on Monday, Nov. 26. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
