PLAYER FLASHBACK

Four members of the Scovell family have donned the Red and Black over the years, beginning with John in the late 60s and his sons -- Field, King and Dupree -- from 1994-03. While we await the third generation, one member of the family will be back on the sidelines. Field returns as one of the team's two orthopaedic doctors. Following graduation in 1996, the two-time academic all-conference honoree attended medical school at Texas Tech; did his residency in Dallas; and recently completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the renowned Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Spartanburg, S.C.

DAILY "DID YOU KNOW"

Texas Tech holds 77 NCAA individual and team records (based on our update of the 2007 NCAA record book; 2008 edition not yet available). Of those, 17 are team records, including Most Punts in a Game. Texas Tech punted 39 times in a game against Centenary in 1939. Playing in a driving rainstorm, Centenary punted 38 times as the teams' combined 77 punts also is an NCAA record.
