DES MOINES, Iowa - Texas Tech junior defensive back/linebacker Reagan Bownds has been named to Successful Farming Magazine's All-American Farm Team, the publication announced today.
Bownds, a native of Eldorado, Texas, is one of five Big 12 Conference players named to the honor. He is Texas Tech's second recipient of the award after linebacker Jody Brown (Cross Plains, Texas) received honorable mention honors in 1996. Bownds is a 5-10, 190-pound linebacker/defensive back that owns a 3.66 cumulative grade point average. He is a former world champion goat roper and was eight on the team in tackles in 1997.
The All-American Farm Team program, sponsored by The New Dodge and Successful Farming Magazine, honors outstanding collegiate athletes who call a farm or ranch home. The athletes are selected from senior college across the country by a panel of journalists, college coaches and sports information directors. The institution of each first-team members receive a $500 scholarship in the athlete's name and a plaque commemorating their selection to the team.
"Reagan is one of the hardest working members of our football team," said Spike Dykes. "He's always been told why he can't do things and takes a lot of pride to prove a lot of people wrong. He is quite the competitor and will be a big part of our defensive football team this season. I'm really happy for him to receive this award."
