LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech wide receiver Detron Lewis (College Station, Texas) has been named to the Biletnikoff Award preseason watch list, announced this week by ESPN. The Texas Tech football program has been home to the award the last two seasons as former Red Raider All-American Michael Crabtree captured the coveted trophy in 2007 and 2008.

Somewhat overshadowed by his former classmate the last two seasons, Lewis has had a productive two seasons with the Red Raiders. He grabbed 76 receptions for 913 yards and three touchdowns last year and proved to be a dependable target. Lewis also caught three touchdown passes during his freshman season, including one in Tech's come-from-behind Gator Bowl win over Virginia.

The Red Raider junior is one of seven receivers from the Big 12 Conference named to the list: Dezmon Briscoe and Kerry Meier of Kansas, Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant, Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles, Texas' Jordan Shipley and Kansas State's Brandon Banks.

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., the creator and sponsor of the Biletnikoff Award, is an independent, charitable organization founded in 1994. A number of people established the award and many more have contributed to its development as one of the most prominent in college football. The ideal of a college receiver's award was not a novel one, as a number of organizations throughout America considered establishing it.

Over 50 prominent journalists, commentators, announcers and former player select the winner through a process audited by a CPA firm. While the TQC Foundation Trustees manage the organization, they have no role in the winner's selection. The award is presented annually on the The Home Depot College Awards Show on ESPN. The group hosts the party at Walt Disney World for the finalist and sponsoring organizations of the many awards presented on ESPN.
