LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech football team resumed two-a-day practices today practicing at 7:55 a.m. and 1:35 p.m. The team worked on punt returns as well as position and team drills. For the first the first time this season, the team spent the afternoon session on the grass practice field adjacent to Jones Stadium. The day concluded with position meetings.

The Red Raiders will practice twice Tuesday. Practices are scheduled for 7:55 a.m. and 1:35 p.m. Tuesday will mark the last day with shorts before the team suits up in pads on Wednesday.

Zeno McCoy (Plainview, Texas) did not practice with the team today due to a military obligation. Defensive lineman McCoy, who served in the Army for three years before coming to Tech, signed with the Red Raiders late this summer.

"The progress of the team is on schedule," head coach Spike Dykes said after the team concluded its fourth day of full team practices. "The team has been taking care of business on the practice field practicing with a good deal of intensity and emotion. Our captains and seniors have done a good job of stepping up and providing leadership for this team. "

Texas Tech has 13 seniors on this years team that have lettered at least twice during their careers. Much of the Red Raider success this season will ultimately be attributed to their example.

"We (the seniors) try to set the tempo each day in practice because the young guys are looking up to us," Montae Reagor (Waxahacie, Texas) senior and team captain said. "We try to maintain the focus of the team and get better every time we step out on the field."

"Weve been here for four years. We know what level of play to expect from each other," Ty Ardoin (Beaumont, Texas), senior linebacker said. "We try to set the example for the younger players by our actions more than our words. "

There are now 22 more practices and three scrimmages prior to the Sept. 5 opener against Texas-El Paso at Jones Stadium. Texas Tech will most Meet the Red Raiders Day on Aug, 29 at 3:00 at Jones Stadium. Members of the football, soccer, and cross country teams will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs. Also, the Masked Rider, Raider Red , the cheerleaders and the pom pom squad will be in attendance.
