The annual Texas Tech Kickoff Luncheon was held at the Lubbock Civic Center on Thursday afternoon.

The event, complete with the Goin' Band, Texas Tech Cheerleaders and two large tractor-trailers painted in red and black, celebrated the beginning of another athletic calendar year.

Thursday's luncheon marked the largest turnout in the event's history with over 2,000 people in attendance.

The Texas Tech football, soccer and volleyball teams were recognized, and special guest Spike Dykes spoke to the crowd.

The event concluded with an address from head football coach Tommy Tuberville and a special recognition of the football senior class.

The Texas Tech Athletics season officially begins Friday when the soccer team hosts Rice at 7 p.m. The volleyball team begins their season on Aug. 26 and the football squad kicks off their season on Sept. 3.
