Red Raider Notebook: Day 12
Aug. 19, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - Well folks. Football season is almost here. That was evident today as the Red Raider Club hosted the annual kickoff luncheon at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. A record turnout of 1,800 fans packed the main event hall of the civic center to meet this year's team and hear from head coach Tommy Tuberville. The demand for tickets was so great that the Red Raider Club had to stop accepting reservations - and that is a great problem to have!!! Today's luncheon was highlighted by a touching speech from the First Lady of Texas Tech University Dr. Jan Tillery. Jan and her husband Guy Bailey (Texas Tech President) are the team's biggest fans and she delivered a very inspiring speech in her husband's absence. As soon as the luncheon was over, the Red Raiders went back to work as the team held a 3:30 p.m. practice inside Jones AT&T Stadium. The squad worked for just over two hours in warm temperatures but it was a spirited practice that Coach Tuberville felt good about when it was over. SOME GREAT NEWS ON THE WAY
