LUBBOCK, Texas -
Chancellor John T. Montford issued a personal invitation to all Texas Tech faculty and staff to attend the Red Raider football team's season-opener against the University of Texas at El Paso for just $5.
In a noon press conference, Montford announced that he, university president Don Haragan and health sciences center president David Smith have donated $20,000 toward the purchase of 4,000 tickets to make available to all Texas Tech employees.
All Texas Tech faculty and staff of both the main campus and the health sciences center must purchase the discounted tickets through the athletic ticket office by Thursday at 5 p.m. A staff identification card is necessary to purchase the tickets.
"We are excited to say thank you to the faculty and staff of Texas Tech University and the health sciences center with this ticket discount," said Montford. "Don Haragan and I decided late last week to offer 2,000 tickets at $5 each for our employees. When we told David Smith about the offer, he decided to match it with another 2,000 tickets.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Texas Tech employees to enjoy a great evening and show their school spirit. I look forward to seeing our employees wearing red and black and enjoying themselves when we play Texas-El Paso on Saturday at Jones Stadium."
