Spike Dykes Quotes From Weekly Teleconference|

LUBBOCK, Texas - On Rob Peter's Status
"I would think Rob is out for North Texas. It is a little early to tell, but from what I heard last night I don't think he'll be able to play this week. It's not that bad, I was relieved to see his range of motion last night. He must have played 15 plays with it...it's not the worst scenario."
On Matt Tittle
"Matt did a good job. The players were talking about the exuberance in his tone. Matt took control of the football team. I was impressed the way he dealt with the whole situation. It's obvious how those kids believe in him because there was no waning of confidence. He's performance, to say the least, was incredible. He really played well making very few errors."
"There have been practices this fall where Matt has played better than Rob. It's been a battle all year. Matt is a good quarterback who has hung in there. In previous years he has had injuries impair him."
"I really thought Matt would do well, but under the circumstances I wondered. Matt was going to play early in this game regardless. He has always kept his head in the game and prepared and it showed last night. Not many people have the luxury of fifth year quarterback on the bench."
On What Tittle Brings to the Offense
"He and Rob are a lot alike. They are both pretty tall in stature and strong for quarterbacks. The offense is the same with both of them. Maybe a little less run oriented with Tittle."
On Ricky Williams
"It just unfolded that he got that many carries. It was a little bit a result of Rob getting hurt. Our offensive line generated more force as the game went on. I didn't have any idea Ricky carried the ball 30 times much less 41 times. It wasn't planned; it just worked our that way. He had some nice gains and nice holes to run through."
"He's a durable guy. To carry 41 times at this stage in the season on a hot night is pretty remarkable."
On The Defensive Performance
"Despite the fact UTEP had two long gainers, overall we played a pretty good game on defense. Up to the third quarter we played flawless. The defense kept us in the ball game and gave us a chance to win."
On North Texas Game
"I'm not a revenge factor guy. Last year they out played us. North Texas forced us to remember from last year that if you don't play well on Saturday you are going to get beat."
What the Red Raiders Need to Improve On
"We need to improve on careless and lack of experience penalties. I was a little disappointed the way our defense let down after playing such a stellar three quarters. We didn't play with quite the intensity as in the first half. On offense, we shut ourselves down a few times. We got in long yardage situations on second down and had a turnover. But, our inexperienced guys got better as the game went on."
On Kliff Kingsbury
"We've got some tough decisions to make. Initial thought was to redshirt Kliff. If Rob is out 4-5 weeks we'll have to go ahead and get Kliff ready to play. He can handle it. He is an exceptional athlete and a astute guy for the game of football. If we have to dial his number, I think he'll respond favorably."
