LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior safety Daniel Charbonnet was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts in Texas Tech's 43-7 over SMU on Saturday. A native of The Woodlands, Texas, set a school record with three interceptions in the game.

Charbonnet leads the country with four interceptions on the season and has helped propel Texas Tech to the national lead with nine interceptions this season, one short of last year's season total of 10. Charbonnet, who also had a fourth pick, slip off his fingertips, has 13 tackles on the season and six total pass breakups.

The Red Raiders continue the 2008 season Saturday against Massachusetts at Jones AT&T Stadium. The game can be heard on Sports Radio 1340 in Lubbock and surrounding areas and on one of the Texas Tech Sports Network's many affiliates across the state. Sirius Satellite and XM radio also will carry the game.
