Red Raiders Debut At No. 25 In The AP Poll|
Texas Tech cracks the Top 25 for the first time this season.
Sept. 15, 2013
Texas Tech's 3-0 start and win over No. 24 TCU on Thursday has propelled the Red Raiders into the national rankings as Tech debuted in the Associated Press poll at No. 25.
The ranking is the first of the season for Texas Tech and its last since checking in at No. 23 in the AP poll on Nov. 11, 2012. This week will mark the 132nd week in school history that Texas Tech has been ranked in the AP Top 25.
The AP ranking in the fourth week of the season is the earliest debut for the Red Raiders since a No. 12 preseason ranking in 2008.
First-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury has his team ranked after just three games and that marks a first in school history. Prior to Kingsbury, the previous mark was five games by Jim Carlen in 1970. Carlen's squad defeated Texas A&M 21-7 in College Station on Oct. 10, 1970, and then appeared in the AP Poll at No. 17 on Oct. 12. The A&M win was Carlen's fifth game as the head coach of the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech hosts its third consecutive game at Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday against the Texas State Bobcats. Kickoff has been set for 6 p.m. and a limited number of tickets remain available for purchase through the athletics ticket office. Remaining tickets can be purchased online at texastech.com/tickets or by calling the athletics ticket office at (806) 742-TECH.
