TECH HOPING FOR RECORD NIGHT
The Texas Tech Department of Athletics is hoping for a record night on Saturday when rival Texas A&M comes to Jones AT&T Stadium to face the Red Raiders. Texas Tech's first major seat expansion in over 50 years is scheduled to open on Saturday and that will push stadium capacity to just shy of 60,000. Texas Tech has added six thousand new seats in the northeast and northwest end zones and those sections will open for the first time on Saturday. Along with setting a new stadium attendance record, Texas Tech is also hoping to set a new student attendance record as well. The current student record is just shy of 12,000 and Tech officials will be holding extra seating for the student body for the game against Texas A&M.
THE SERIES
Texas Tech will take a four-game win streak against Texas A&M into Saturday's match-up in Jones AT&T Stadium. The Red Raiders pushed their win streak over the Aggies to four games last season in College Station with a 43-25 win at Kyle Field. Texas Tech has won each of the last seven meetings at Jones AT&T Stadium with A&M's last win in Lubbock dating back to the 1993 season (a 31-6 win by the Aggies). Despite having won 11 of the last 14 meetings, the Aggies still maintain a slight lead in the all-time series at 34-32-1. Texas Tech is 16-11 against the Aggies in Lubbock.
Saturday's game will mark the 67th all-time meeting against Texas A&M. The series against the Aggies is the second most played in school history.
Texas Tech has only been ranked eight times in the matchup with the Aggies while Texas A&M has been ranked 23 times.
An unranked A&M team has never defeated a ranked Tech team while an unranked Tech team has defeated an ranked A&M team seven times.

In the series, 28 games have been decided by seven points or less while 10 games have been decided by three points or less.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE AGGIES
The Texas A&M Aggies come into Saturday's game on a three-game losing skid after dropping a 62-14 decision at Kansas State this past weekend. The Aggies turned the ball over a season-high five times in the contest while surrendering 424 yards of total offense. The Aggies stand at 3-3 overall and are 0-2 in the Big 12 Conference with losses to Oklahoma State and now the Wildcats. Texas A&M is led by head coach Mike Sherman who is in his second season with the Aggies.
Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson is averaging 315.5 passing yards per-game and just recently set the Big 12 record for most consecutive pass attempts without an interception in a single season. Prior to his first of three interceptions on the night against Kansas State, Johnson set the record with 225 consecutive pass attempts without an INT. Howard Murrow has been Johnson's favorite target so far in 2009 as the two have connected 25 times.
Defensively, Texas A&M is allowing an average of 393.5 yards-per-game (226.7 through the air). Strong safety Trent Hunter is the team's leading tackler with 44 stops while defensive end (JACK position) Von Miller is the Big 12's leader in sacks with 10.
LEACH JUST ONE WIN AWAY FROM TYING DYKES
Mike Leach is just one win away from tying Spike Dykes as the all-time leader in wins at Texas Tech. Dykes led the Red Raiders to a school record 82 wins between 1986-99 before Mike Leach took over the program. In just eight years, Leach has compiled 81 wins with 44 of those coming in the Big 12 Conference.
RED RAIDERS CRACK THE TOP 25
For the first time this season, Texas Tech found themselves in the Top 25 following a 31-10 win over No. 15 Nebraska. Texas Tech is No. 21 in the Associated Press poll and No. 24 in the USA Today/Coaches poll. The rankings are the first for Tech since 2008 when the Red Raiders entered the polls in the preseason and never left them following a school record season of 11-2. Texas Tech climbed as high as No. 2 last year after wins over No. 1 Texas and No. 8 Oklahoma State and finished the season at No. 12 after falling to Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl. The Red Raiders are one of five Big 12 teams in the national rankings.
CAPTAINS SELECTED FOR TEXAS A&M
Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach has adopted a new policy of electing game captains each week with an emphasis being placed on performance. Serving as game captains this week will be Baron Batch (RB), Marlon Winn (OL), Bront Bird (LB) and Brandon Sharpe (DE).
SHARPE NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior defensive end Brandon Sharpe was named the Big 12 Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week following an outstanding performance at No. 15 Nebraska. Sharpe posted a career-high four sacks and seven tackles tackles to help lead the Red Raiders to a 31-10 win over the Huskers.
RECORD ON THE LINE AGAINST A&M
A win over Texas A&M on Saturday would establish a new home win streak record for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are currently riding a 12-game home win streak which is tied as the longest streak in school history. Tech last won 12-straight between the 1939 and 1941 seasons. The Red Raiders began their current home win streak with a 34-27 win over No. 3 Oklahoma on Nov. 17, 2007. Tech's home win streak grew to 12 games two weeks ago by virtue of a 66-14 win over Kansas State.
TECH TOUGH AT HOME UNDER THE LIGHTS
Texas Tech will face Texas A&M on Saturday evening under the lights at Jones AT&T Stadium - an atmosphere that has been extremely favorable to the Red Raiders. Since Mike Leach's arrival at Tech in 2000, his teams have posted a 32-6 record in night games at home - helping make Jones AT&T Stadium one of the more difficult places to play in the nation. Tech has also won 11 consecutive night games at the Jones.
NO TV?!?!?!?!?
Strangely enough, Texas Tech's match-up against Texas A&M on Saturday will be the only Big 12 game not televised. ABC/ESPN, FOX and Versus all passed up the opportunity to televise the game and it will mark the first time since 2002 that the rivalry will not be seen by a television audience.
BIG 12 NORTH WIN STREAK GROWS TO FIVE
Texas Tech's 31-10 win over Nebraska gave the Red Raiders a five-game win streak against the Big 12 North Division. Tech defeated Kansas State last week in the home Big 12 opener to grow the streak to four games after sweeping the North last season (wins over Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska).
