THE SERIES

The Red Raiders pushed their current win streak to three games last season in Lawrence as Tech dropped the 19th-ranked Jayhawks 63-21 at Memorial Stadium. The win over Kansas last year gave Texas Tech a 10-1 advantage in the all-time series that first began with a 26-7 win over the Jayhawks in Lubbock. Tech rattled off six more wins over Kansas following that first win in 1965 before the Jayhawks picked up their lone win in the series with a 34-31 overtime win at Jones A&T Stadium on Oct. 6, 2001.
u Texas Tech is 6-1 against the Jayhawks in Big 12 Conference play.
u Tech's only loss to Kansas came in 2001 when backup quarterback BJ Symons tossed an interception in overtime to give the Jayhawks a 34-31 win. Kansas out scored Tech 11-0 in the fourth quarter of that game to force the overtime period.
u Tech rallied for 20 points in the second half of the 2004 game in Lawrence to post a 31-30 come-from-behind win over the Jayhawks. Henderson finished with 169 rushing yards, including a game-winning 70-yard TD run with 2:37 left .
A QUICK LOOK AT THE JAYHAWKS
The Kansas Jayhawks come to Lubbock riding a two-game losing skid after dropping decisions at Colorado and this past week at home against Oklahoma. HOME WIN STREAK COMES TO AN END
Texas A&M denied Texas Tech the chance to set a new home win streak record as the Aggies dropped the Red Raiders 52-30 on Oct. 24. Prior to the A&M game, Tech had tied the school record with 12 consecutive wins at home but was denied the opportunity to reach 13. The A&M win over Tech was its first in Lubbock since the 1993 season, snapping a seven-game losing skid at Jones AT&T Stadium.
LEACH JUST ONE WIN AWAY FROM TYING DYKES
Mike Leach is just one win away from tying Spike Dykes as the all-time leader in wins at Texas Tech. Dykes led the Red Raiders to a school record 82 wins between 1986-99 before Mike Leach took over the program. In just eight years, Leach has compiled 81 wins with 44 of those coming in the Big 12 Conference.
CAPTAINS SELECTED FOR KANSAS
Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach has adopted a new policy of electing game captains each week with an emphasis being placed on performance. Serving as game captains this week will be Julius Howard (special teams), Baron Batch and Alex Torres (offense) and Bront Bird and Jamar Wall (defense).
BIG 12 NORTH WIN STREAK STANDS AT FIVE
Texas Tech's 31-10 win over Nebraska gave the Red Raiders a five-game win streak against the Big 12 North Division. Tech defeated Kansas State three weeks ago in the home Big 12 opener to grow the streak to four games after sweeping the North last season (wins over Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska).
QUICK TO STRIKE
Texas Tech has long been known for its ability to score quickly and 2009 is no exception. The Red Raider offense has scored 10 times this season in under two minutes and seven times in less than a minute.
MEET Seth Doege
Texas Tech could potentially start its third different quarterback this season when the Red Raiders take on the Jayhawks on Saturday. Redshirt freshman Seth Doege (DAY-gie) replaced Taylor Potts in the second half of the Texas A&M game and could possibly get the starting nod on Saturday depending on how the upcoming week of practice progresses.
Facts On Doege
Enrolled at Texas Tech in the spring of 2008 and earned a redshirt the following fall (2008). Ranked as the No. 4 overall quarterback in the state by Rivals.com and the No. 18 pro-style passer in the nation.
Missed his junior and senior seasons in high school due to injuries. When he entered the game in mop-up duty against Kansas State, it marked the first time in five years that he had seen playing time in an actual game. Prior to Kansas State, the last time he was in a uniform was for Crane High School in the 2005 state playoffs.
Recruited by Florida, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Purdue.
Threw for 146 yards (18-of-25) in the second half against Texas A&M without an interception or a fumble.
Mike Leach on Doege after the Texas A&M game: "I thought Doege went in and played pretty well. I thought, you know, Doege went out there and didn't really try to make too much happen, but was pretty good with routine plays and created a level of tempo and things like that."
BREAKOUT GAME FOR TORRES
After a quiet game at Nebraska, redshirt freshman Alex Torres made all sorts of noise on Saturday against the Aggies. Torres turned in a career night as he posted 128 receiving yards on eight catches, including a long reception of 56 yards for Tech's first touchdown of the night.
STADIUM RECORD

McSACK ATTACK
The Ronald McDonald House couldn't be happier. Defensive Coordinator Ruffin McNeil, who has long been a champion for the local Ronald McDonald House, has his team raking in big money for his favorite charity. Each time the Red Raiders sack a quarterback, a donation is made to the Lubbock Ronald McDonald House to help a sick child and their family. With 24 sacks on the season, the Red Raiders are not only wreaking havoc on opposing offenses but generating money for a great cause.
With 24 sacks in eight games, Tech is well on its way to surpassing last season's total of 34 sacks in 13 games.
Tech is second in the Big 12 Conference and is ranked 11th nationally.
DE Brandon Sharpe, the team leader with eight sacks, ranks second in the Big 12 and is tied for fifth nationally.
