Noting The Red Raiders

Graham Harrell was named the Walter Camp Player of the Week.

Texas Tech hosts Texas in a showdown of top 10 programs. The Red Raiders enter Saturday's game with a No. 6/5 national ranking, while the Longhorns are the nation's top-ranked team. Texas Tech defeated No. 18 Kansas, 63-21, last weekend in Lawrence to improve to 8-0 for only the third time in school history and 4-0 in Big 12 Conference play. Texas won at home over No. 8 Oklahoma State, 28-24, and also moved its record to 8-0, 4-0.

ABC will carry the game nationally at 7 p.m. CT from Jones AT&T Stadium with Brent Musburger (play-by-play), Kirk Herbstreit (analyst) and Lisa Salters (sideline) calling the action. The game will be the sixth of the year on television for Texas Tech and the second on ABC.

For the first time since it began broadcasting from campuses across the country in 1993, College Gameday built by The Home Depot is heading to Lubbock. Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit will anchor the show from a location on campus to be determined. Also, ESPN College Gameday Radio will be on campus with hosts Ryan Russillo, Todd McShay and Trevor Matich. ESPN College Gameday Radio attended the Oklahoma game in Lubbock last season.

Texas Tech, Penn State and Utah enter the week with the nation's longest win streaks at 10 games, dating back to last season. Texas Tech's last loss was a 59-43 setback at Texas late last season.

Texas Tech and Texas have met annually since 1960, when the Red Raiders began play in the Southwest Conference. The Longhorns hold a 42-14 advantage in the series, which dates back to the 1928 season when the teams first met in Austin. Texas Tech's last win was a 42-38 victory over then-No. 3 Texas in Lubbock in 2002.

Texas Tech and Texas combined for 47 of the game's 102 total points in the fourth quarter as the team's traded jabs, before Texas left the field with a 59-43 win in Austin last season. Tech QB Graham Harrell blistered the Longhorn secondary for 466 yards and five touchdowns, while target Michael Crabtree totaled 195 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions. Texas RB Jamaal Charles rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries to lead the Longhorn ground game. QB Colt McCoy passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns.

Texas Tech jumped a spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 5, leapfrogging a 6-1 USC team. The Red Raiders also climbed two spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 6, passing USC and Oklahoma State. Tech trails No. 4 Oklahoma in the coaches' poll by 19 points.

Texas Tech is ranked seventh in the second BCS poll of the season, released Sunday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ranking matches the highest for the Red Raiders in the poll since a No. 7 showing on Oct. 18, 2005.

Texas Tech Football is one win away from the 500th win in program history. Beginning with the first win against Montezuma on Oct. 17, 1925, to the Red Raiders' 63-21 win over Kansas, the program has accumulated 499 wins to 387 losses and 32 ties.
