LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior strong safety Daniel Charbonnet (The Woodlands, Texas) has been named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Red Raiders' 39-33 win over then-No. 1 Texas on Saturday.

Charbonnet stepped in front of a Colt McCoy pass midway through the third quarter and returned the pick 18 yards for a touchdown that gave Texas Tech a 29-13 lead. The interception was the fifth of the year for Charbonnet, who along with teammate and free safety Darcel McBath, is tied second nationally.

Charbonnet will be added to the 2008 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List. The Bronko Naguski Trophy will be presented to the best defensive player in college football Dec. 7 by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C. Five finalists for the Nagurski Trophy will be announced Nov. 17.
