LUBBOCK, Texas - Opening comments from weekly teleconference:

"We were disappointed to lose, there is no question about that. I think our guys were ready to play. We jumped out and got a 10-point lead and had command of the game and the crowd. Then we had a field goal get blocked and returned for a touchdown to make it 10-7. You sort of got the feeling that our football team said here we go again. I'm not sure what happened. We went through a quarter and a half where we didn't play very well. Oklahoma is an extremely good defensive football team. It is sort of the story of our year. We have a good defensive football team. Stats don't mean anything. All they do is substantiate reason for losing if you're not careful. We are No. 10 in the nation in total defense. Our guys deserve better than that. Our defense guys played extremely well. Offensively we are No. 30 in the nation. Our offensive guys played extremely well. We just turned the football over. You can not do that. We have just turned it over too many times and not taken it away enough. Last year we had very few turnovers and took it away many times. As good as our defense has been this season, we just haven't taken the ball away or they haven't given it up depending on how you want to look at it."

"It is unfortunate because this is a good football team. They are a great bunch of guys. It is disappointing. It takes a lot of the good things we have done out of the picture. You are only as good as your last game."

"I commend Oklahoma. They played a good game, turned the ball over only once and made the plays. We didn't execute the field goal which would have put us by 13 with the defense playing great. Not only did we not get the field goal, but we turned the whole game around in a 10-point swing in one play. Those are the things that are frustrating."

"Rob had a hard day at the office; there is no question about that. Matt came in the game and gave us a great chance. I thought we were going to win the game. We really playing great and we turned the ball over. You wish that didn't happen. When you are playing hard and trying to get extra yards sometimes those things are unavoidable."

"It was a frustrating finish to a season that has been pretty good. I think the losses that we've had up to this point have been to top quality football teams. We got beat by a team Saturday that is not in that class and we have no one to blame but ourselves."

"This team knows they know they have to play hard every week to have a chance. I don't think we every took an opponent lightly. A year ago we didn't play very good, but this year we didn't play good, but we played hard."

On the decision to kick the blocked field goal

"Anytime we were inside the 35 yard line with the ball we were nearly 100% kicking the ball. There wasn't any doubt, I thought we'd make the field goal for sure. After you get it blocked, you wish you hadn't done that."

On what can be taken out of losing four games by 14 points

"We've got a long way to go, but at least we see light at the end of the tunnel. We aren't light years away (from being a top team)".
