Noting The Red Raiders

Senior QB Graham Harrell will play his final game at Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday.

GAME INFORMATION
Texas Tech (10-1, 6-1) faces Big 12 South Division foe Baylor (4-7, 2-5) on Saturday in Lubbock at 2:30 p.m. CT at Jones AT&T Stadium.

GAME NOTES
No. 7/8 Texas Tech remained in the top 10 following Saturday's loss at No. 5 Oklahoma ... the Baylor game is the 114th of Head Coach Mike Leach's career at Texas Tech and he boasts a 75-38 record during that span ... Leach is one win shy of tying legendary Red Raider coach Pete Cawthon in second place on the all-time wins list at the school (Spike Dykes, 82 wins) ... Leach is the third-most tenured coach in the Big 12 Conference at nine seasons, while his five bowl wins are second since the 2000 season ... Texas Tech is a perfect 6-0 at home this season and has a seven-game home winning streak, dating back to 2007 ... Texas Tech has a 4-1 record on the road this season, marking the first time since 1977 that a Tech team has won as many regular season games away from home ... Texas Tech ranks among the top offensive programs in passing offense (first), total offense (fourth) and scoring offense (fifth) ... the Texas Tech offensive line has yielded nine sacks in 554 pass attempts ... junior guard Brandon Carter and senior offensive tackle Rylan Reed have not yielded a sack all season ... the Red Raider rush defense has allowed almost 1,000 less yards on the season than all of 2007 ... Tech's 1,371 yards rushing this season is the most since 2003, while the Red Raiders' 25 rushing scores is five shy of the school record of 30 set in 1993.

SOUTH STILL ON THE LINE
Despite the setback in Norman last week, Texas Tech still has a shot at the Big 12 South title. First, the Red Raiders have to win Saturday against Baylor; then pull for Oklahoma State to knock off Oklahoma in Stillwater in the annual Bedlam game later Saturday evening. The loss would give Oklahoma two and, with Tech knocking off Texas head-to-head, the Red Raiders would represent the South division in Kansas City on Dec. 6.

RANKINGS
Texas Tech is ranked seventh by the AP and eighth in the USA Today Coaches polls.

SERIES
Texas Tech claimed the series lead for the first time since 1946 last year and holds a 33-32-1 advantage. The Red Raiders have won 12 straight against the Bears and the last eight in Lubbock. The last Baylor win at Jones AT&T Stadium was a 21-15 victory in 1990, while the last win in the series for the Bears was a 9-7 triumph in 1995. Under Mike Leach, the Texas Tech defense has held Baylor to 11.1 points per game in eight meetings, while the Tech offense is averaging 47.3 points.

TEXAS TECH VERSUS THE BIG 12
Texas Tech is 60-43 all-time in Big 12 Conference play and ranks fifth in conference wins during that span ... since Mike Leach arrived in 2000, the Red Raiders have won 41 league dates, which ranks third behind Oklahoma (61) and Texas (58).

BEST 11-GAME STARTS
Texas Tech has held a 10-1 record six times during its 84-year history - 1932, 1938, 1953, 1973, 1976 and this season. The 1938 team is the only squad to finish the regular season undefeated.

ALSO LOOKING FOR 7
Texas Tech's 6-1 conference record this season marks the most wins in conference play since 2005, when the Red Raiders finished with a 6-2 mark. Only two other teams have won six games in conference play in Tech's history - 1973 and 1976. The 1973 squad finished the season with a 6-1 mark in Southwest Conference play, while the 1976 team's 7-1 record marks the most conference wins in a single season in school history.

NOVEMBER RECORD
Texas Tech is 19-11 in the Mike Leach era in games played during the 11th month ... the Red Raiders' game against Baylor will cap one of the roughest stretches in school history as Tech knocked off No. 1 Texas (Nov. 1) and No. 8 Oklahoma State (Nov. 8), before dropping last weekend's game at No. 5 Oklahoma.

BAYLOR CONNECTIONS
Baylor Head Coach Art Briles and Bears' defensive coordinator Brian Norwood were on Mike Leach's staff at Texas Tech during the 2000 season ... Norwood left for Penn State following Leach's inaugural season, while Briles was on staff three seasons ... Baylor linebackers coach Larry Hoefer was an assistant at Texas Tech under Spike Dykes during the 1994-99 seasons.

TECH'S STREAK COMES TO AN END
Texas Tech held the nation's longest win streak at 12 games, dating back to last year's 34-27 win over Oklahoma in Lubbock, before Saturday's loss to the Sooners in Norman. The Red Raiders also held a streak of seven-straight conference wins, which led the Big 12 and was the longest conference streak in the country.

  • The ground game tandem of running backs Baron Batch and Shannon Woods has produced 100-yard rushing games in 10 of 11 games this season.
