Tech Men's Golf Finishes Tied For 14th at NCAA

Red Raiders Nearly Complete Amazing Comeback

SPRING 2011:Earned his first career All-Big 12 honor from the league coaches following a strong senior season ... played in six of the seven tournaments, missing the Morris Williams Intercollegiate due to illness ... logged two Top 10 finishes, including a sixth place result (2-under 211) at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational ... finished 10th at the Aggie Invitational with a 3-over 219 ... ended the year (fall and spring) ranked second on the team with a 72.6 stroke average.

FALL 2010: Led the team with three top-10 finishes including a season-best, fourth-place finish at the 2010 Royal Oaks Intercollegiate following a 6-under par 136 two-round total ... the senior also captured the team's only top-10 finish at the prestigious Isleworth Collegiate Invitational as he finished in a tie for ninth place overall ... competed in all 11 rounds of the fall season while leading the squad with an even-par 72 average per round.

SPRING 2010: Been a regular mainstay in the Tech lineup ... competed in every spring tournament ... best performance was a tie for eighth at The Aggie Invitational ... shot a 4-under 212 at the tournament, backed by a 5-under 67 final round ... also had strong outings at the UTSA Invitational (T-22nd) and Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters (T-21st) ... finished tied for 19th at the Big 12 Championships ... sandwiched two separate 2-under 70 rounds in between a 76 first round and 77 final round ... continued his strong performances at the NCAA South Central Regional where he fired a 2-over 218 to finish tied for 20th overall ... shot a 2-under 70 second round to help pull Tech to within a stroke of then-leader Texas A&M ... following an 8-over 80 in the first round of the NCAA Championships, shot 6-under over the final two rounds to push Tech into match play ... fired a 5-under 67 final round which was the course record set by Tiger Woods entering the tournament ... joined teammate Chris Ward in tying the course record ... Oregon State's Diego Velasquez eventually broke the course record with a 6-under 66 final round ... dropped his match to Seth Lauer in the opening round of match play against Florida State ... third on the team with a 73.9 stroke average.

FALL 2009: Tied in 39th place at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate ... opened with a 68, followed by rounds of 74-76 ... returned to the lineup at the Carpet Capital Collegiate and fired rounds of 75-72-75 to finish in a 33rd-place tie ... averaging 73.3 strokes per round.

SUMMER 2009: Won the Los Angeles City Championship, after entering at the last minute on a suggestion from friends ... advanced to the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur.

FALL 2008-SPRING 2009: Redshirt season.

SPRING 2008: Played as an individual at the UTSA Invitational, where he tied in ninth place with solid rounds of 69-75-73 for a 217 ... he led a group of five others playing as individuals ... finished the round at the Linger Longer Invitational with another 76 to stand at 152 ... concluded his play at 233 at the Western Intercollegiate.

FALL 2007: Competed in four events this season with an average score of 75.00...He had his best finish at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate where he tied for 10th with a four-over 220...Smith shot his season low of 70 at the Jerry Pate National tournament where he finished with a one-over 214.

SPRING 2007: After arriving at Tech in the spring, competed in seven events with an average score of 74.30... Had two top 20 finishes, including his personal best at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational where he shot a four-under 212 to tie for 11th place, the best finish on the team... Shot his lowest round at the same tournament by carding a score of 67... Smith's low round of five under in the ASU Thunderbird is tied for third best round for the year... Had the fifth-best average of any Tech golfer during the spring.

BEFORE TECH: Finished with a scoring average of 70.93 through 29 rounds... Was a member of the New South Wales National Golf Team, the Australia Golf Union Elite Squad and the Australian Institute of Sport Elite Golf Team... Awarded the 2006 Vardon Trophy which is given to the top amateur golfer in New South Wales... Took the title at three amateur tournaments in Australia: Yowani Open Amateur, Australian Capital Territory Open and the Cromer Bowl... Fired a final round of 67 to win the Australian Capital Territory Open... Carded a final round of 69 in the Tasmanian Open Championship to finish 22nd.
