No. 21 Men's Golf Tied For Seventh After Day One In Hawaii

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior Tyler Weworski shot two-under par (70) in the first round of the 21st Annual Ameri Ari Invitational and led the No. 21 Red Raiders to a tie for seventh place on day one.
Texas Tech, which is opening its season this week at the Waikoloa Kings' Course in Kona, Hawaii, had a solid first round and sits in a tie with Oregon State for seventh place with a first round team total of 284. The Red Raiders are 13 strokes behind tournament leader USC and six strokes back of second place Georgia Tech.
Weworski's first round placed him in a tie for 21st and marks his best round of the year to date. He is followed by seniors Matt Smith and Nils Floren who both shot one-under (71) today and tied for 31st. Junior Brian Scherer, who is playing as an individual in this tournament, is even after the first round after turning in a 72.
The second round of the tournament gets underway tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. (CT) and live results will be available on www.golfstat.com.
