MONTERREY, Mexico -- The Texas Tech men's golf team completed the first round of competition at the International Intercollegiate held in Monterrey, Mexico. The Red Raiders hold on at the ninth position in the 20-team field in the three-day tournament, hosted by Rice University.

UC Berkley sits at the number one spot with a team total of 266, followed by Baylor with 273. Cal's Jay Berkowitz claimed the top individual score, shooting a 64 in the first round on the par 72, 6,892-yard course.

For Texas Tech (283), freshman Gant Bills leads the squad, firing a first round 69 to tie for 15th. Freshman Matt Loving was just one stroke behind, to complete the round with a 70 and tie for 28th. Junior Philip Tate fired a 71 while junior Tom Baldwin and senior Mark Garcia both shot a 73.

Tournament action continues Friday and Saturday in the 54-hole event.
