Tech Cards School-Best 266

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech fired a school-record 266 in the second round of the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio on Monday and leads the tournament by 18 strokes over second-place Texas-Arlington. The Red Raiders opened the 54-hole event at Oak Hills Country Club with a 7-under 277.
Sophomore Chris Ward turned in the best 36-hole score of his career as he posted rounds of 65 and 66. He leads the event by five strokes over Oklahoma Ben Blundell heading into Tuesday's final round.
Four Red Raiders posted sub-par rounds in the 60s, leading to Tech's record-setting 266. In addition to Ward, Nils Floren carded a 66 and is tied in second place, while Sanitago Rivas and Garrett Merrell fired a 66 and 68, respectively, are in seventh place and ninth place ties. Will Griffin is tied in 13th place after shooting a 73 in the second round. He opened the event with a 69. Sergio Franky, playing as an individual, is tied in 27th place.
Trailing Texas Tech (543) and Texas-Arlington (561) are Texas State (562), Oklahoma (564) and Illinois State (576) in the top five. Wichita State (578), Stephen F. Austin (584), DePaul (586), Sam Houston State (593) and Louisiana-Monroe (595) round out the top ten, while UTSA (597), Central Arkansas (598), McNeese State (605) and Air Force (617) complete the field.
