LUBBOCK, Texas -- Sophomore Esteban Restrepo fired a 1-under par 71 to lead No. 29 Texas Tech in the first round of the Memphis Intercollegiate as windy and cold conditions made the second round tougher with darkness suspending play heading into Tuesday.
The Red Raiders are currently in ninth place at 42-over par as a team with four holes remaining in the second round before the team starts the third and final round on Tuesday.
Austin Peay leads all teams at 23-over par, followed by Louisiana-Lafayette (+29) and Louisville (+30).
Restrepo carded four birdies to lead the Red Raiders to a team total 17-over 305 in the first round - only two shots off the leading rounds shot by Austin Peay and South Alabama (303). But then winds peaked around 30 miles per hour as the temperature around Colonial Country Club dropped and scores started going up.
"The wind chill dropped pretty low, in the twenties, and the conditions were really tough at that point and it affected us the rest of the day," Tech head coach Greg Sands said. "The good thing is we have 20 holes left to make a move on Tuesday and these guys are more than capable of doing so."
Sophomores Clement Sordet and Henry Todd followed Restrepo with a pair of 5-over 77s while Finley Ewing carded an 80. Sordet is only two over par for the second round and leads Tech at seven over total.
