TRINITY, Texas - Texas Tech fell three strokes shy of the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship on Sunday, ending an improbable run that gave the Red Raiders their best finish at this tournament in school history.

No. 14 Texas overcame a one-shot deficit coming into the final round and posted a 3-over, 291 to give the Longhorns a 72-hole score of 6-over, 1,158. The Longhorns have now won back-to-back Big 12 Championships.

"We battled all week, it's a long week, the guys gave us all they had," Head Coach Greg Sands said. "That's life in golf sometimes: you do your best and you don't win. I'm proud of the guys. We battled, had a few bad breaks at the end but in the end, Texas was a better team today but I do think that we hold our heads high and be proud of the way we fought."

Despite trailing most of the day, the tournament came down to the final two holes as both teams had trouble with the finish. Matias Dominguez, who was at even par after 17, tripled bogeyed No. 18 that dropped him to 3-over for the round. Henry Todd, who was 2-over through 17, bogeyed No. 18 and that dropped him to 3-over.

Texas had problems of its own on the 18th hole as Beau Hossler dropped to 2-over par after a double bogey while Tony Hakula fell to 1-over after a bogey.

The problems for Texas Tech, however, started early in the morning as the Red Raiders had eight combined bogeys on the front nine and made the turn at 5-over par.

Junior Clement Sordet and freshman Hannes Ronneblad were named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team by virtue of Top 10 finishes. Sordet paced the Red Raiders overall at 3-over, 291 and finished seventh on the individual leaderboard. Ronneblad tied for ninth place at 5-over, 293.

Juniors Henry Todd and Matias Dominguez finished in 18th and a tie for 19th, respectively. Todd was 7-over for the tournament while Dominguez was 8-over.

Texas Tech now awaits its postseason destination, as the NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Monday, May 5 at 9 a.m. (CT) on The Golf Channel. The Red Raiders will be making their 13th consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals.
