The Texas Tech Men's Golf team will have work to do in Saturday's final round of the NCAA Raleigh Regional if the squad hopes to return to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year.
The Red Raiders had a difficult time finishing today's second round and dropped to 8-over par and will enters Saturday's final round in ninth place. The top five teams will advance to next week's NCAA Championships at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.
"We just didn't make enough birdies, which means we didn't putt well enough," head coach Greg Sands said. "Then playing the last hole at four over didn't help either. We're just going to have to play awfully well tomorrow."
Texas Tech is nine strokes from the cutline at fifth place and would have been much closer had it not been for disappointing finish on 18. Four different players either bogeyed or double bogeyed the 18th hole, which set the team back four strokes on that one hole alone.
"We've got to play good," Sands noted. "We have a chance. I don't know if it's a good chance, but we've got to play really good if we're going to make it."
