Tech Golf in Fifth Place after Day One of NCAA East Regional

ORLANDO, Fla. - Junior Oscar Floren shot a one-under par 71 on Thursday as the No. 7 seeded Texas Tech men's golf team began play at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club during the first round of the NCAA East Regional. As a team, the Red Raiders turned in a one-over par score of 289 to end the first day of the event in fifth place overall.
Tech trails top-ranked Georgia by only five strokes as the Bulldogs lead the event after a four-under par opening round total of 284. Jonathan Jackson of North Carolina turned the day's best scorecard with a six-under 66 to lead Georgia's Brendon Todd by one shot.
Floren used four birdies on the day, including three on the front nine, to lead the Tech contingency at the event, just one shot ahead of freshman Santiago Rivas, who tallied a pair of birdies after the turn to card an even par 72 for the day ending in a tie for 15th.
Senior Andrew Dresser and freshman Jake Younan-Wise are both within striking distance of the leaders after completing the round in a tie for 27th place as both players opened play with a round of 73. Freshman Brandon Lakatta was also solid on Thursday, sitting in a tie for 39th after carding a two-over round of 74.
