OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Junior Esteban Restrepo fired a 2-over par 72 on Friday to help the Texas Tech men's golf team to a tie for third place after the first round of the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The No. 32 Red Raiders are tied with No. 3 Texas at 12-over par (292) and are one stroke behind No. 12 Oklahoma State and 11 back of No. 2 and defending national champion Alabama.
Restrepo is tied for 10th after sinking three birdies in his opening round, including one on the 471-yard par 4 - one of only two players to birdie the hole all day. Junior Matias Dominguez and freshman Hannes Ronneblad both carded 3-over 73s and are tied for 15th, followed by junior Henry Todd's 74, putting him in a tie for 26th. Junior Clement Sordet rounded out the scores with a 77.
The Red Raiders will tee off beginning with Sordet at 10:20 a.m. CT and will play along with Oklahoma State and Alabama.
