Tech Holds Four-Stroke Lead in Tampa|

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech opened the Gary Koch Intercollegiate on Saturday with a tournament record 271 in the first round and followed with a 279 in the second to secure the lead heading into Sunday's final round at Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla. Three Red Raiders are among the top six on the leaderboard.
Junior Nils Floren carded seven birdies in the morning round for a 66 and shared the lead heading into the second. He currently sits tied in fourth with senior teammate Chris Ward after shooting a 70. Ward turned in rounds of 69-67 and vaulted from 13th to fourth in the second round.
Sophomore Brian Scherer fired a personal 36-hole record with rounds of 69-68 and sits alone in sixth place. Junior Matt Smith and freshman Finley Ewing are tied in 27th place, each shooting rounds of 68-74.
The Red Raiders are 26-under for the tournament and lead the event by four strokes over Florida State (-22). Florida (-16) and Virginia (-15) are third and fourth, while Augusta State (-12) and Georgia Southern (-12) are tied in fifth. LSU (-8), North Carolina (-7), Mississippi (-6), Auburn (-6) and North Florida (-5) round out the top 10. Kentucky (-3), UAB )-2), East Tennessee State (+1) and South Florida (+21) round out the field.
Florida State's Seath Lauer, who shared the lead with Floren after the first round, sits atop the leaderboard at 11-under.
The final round gets underway at 7 a.m. CT Sunday.
