Ewing Sets School Record And Puts Texas Tech In Lead At Royal Oaks|
October 29, 2012
Senior Finley Ewing IV fired a school and course record 61 in the second round of today's Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and has carried the Red Raiders to a first place standing after day one.
"You can't say enough about Finley Ewing and the round of golf he played today," said Texas Tech Head Coach Greg Sands. "To shoot a 61 and set a new school and course record is something really special. Most importantly, we had a senior take control and put us in a position to win this tournament."
Ewing, a senior from Dallas, fired a 10-under 61 in today's second round to earn a spot in the school record book for lowest round. His score of 61 tops that of a 62 shot by Will Griffin in the 2006 Jerry Pate Invitational. The score also set a new course record for Royal Oaks that was previously set by current PGA Tour member Colt Knost.
Ewing's second round mastery and a hole-in-one by redshirt freshman Nathan Weant moved Texas Tech from 8th place after round one to a first place standing after round two. Texas Tech will enter Tuesday's third and final round with a two-stroke lead over Oklahoma State.
Iowa is three strokes back of Texas Tech at 8-under while Texas A&M is seven strokes back at 4-under.
