Men's Golf Finishes First Day at Rice Intercollegiate
Feb. 12, 2001 LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders finished the first day of play at the inaugural Rice Intercollegiate in sixth place. The Kansas Jayhawks are in the lead with rounds of 282 and 289 for a combined 571. Red Raider David Bolen leads the team even in a ninth-place tie with two other golfers after shooting a 71 and 73 respectively. Kyle Willmann returns to the green at four-over par in 19th place with rounds of 72 and 76. Other Texas Tech golfers participating in the tourney include Mark Hull in a 26th-place tie at six-over par with two other golfers shooting rounds of 74 and 77. Brad Jacobson is right behind Hull at seven-over par in a 29th-place tie with five other golfers. Trey Pyka rounds out the Red Raiders in 51st place after shooting 14-over par with rounds of 79 and 79. First place is exciting with a tie between Mississippi State's Codie Mudd and Andy Stewart of Kansas. Both golfers go into tomorrow's final round at six-under par.
The final 18 holes will start tomorrow at 8 a.m. Meadowbrook Farms is a 72-par course located in Katy, Texas.
