Wyoming Desert Invitational Awaits Red Raider Golf Team
![]() Men's Golf set for the Wyoming Desert Invitational, Saturday-Sunday. Feb. 24, 2012 Season Statistics | Classic Club, Palm Desert, Calif. | Live Stats Fresh off a tournament win two weeks ago in San Antonio, the Texas Tech Men's Golf Team heads to Palm Desert, Calif., to take part in the Fourth Annual University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday at the Classic Club. "I was really proud of the way we played in San Antonio and I hope that we keep that same approach this weekend in Palm Springs," said head coach Greg Sands. "This is another quality tournament that can help us build our NCAA resume. We need to focus on improvement and how we can be a better golf team every time we set foot on the course." Texas Tech will tee off against seven teams ranked in the latest Golfweek Top 50 including; No. 12 UNLV, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 29 Baylor, No. 38 Arizona, No. 40 SMU, No. 41 St. Mary's (Calif.) and No. 48 San Francisco. UTEP, Denver, Southern Utah, Colorado, Cal-Poly, Nebraska, Auburn, Santa Clara, Hawaii, Iowa State, UC-Riverside, Texas-Arlington, Kent State, Houston, Idaho and host Wyoming round out the 24-team field. The Red Raiders are led by freshman Clement Sordet who tied for medalist honors at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational two weeks ago in San Antonio. Sordet has logged two first place finishes this season and boasts a 72.0 stroke average over 15 rounds of golf. Finley Ewing IV is second on the squad with a 73.5 stroke average and has three top 10 finishes so far this year. The tournament will consist of three rounds and will be played over the course of two days at the Classic Club in Palm Desert. Rounds 1-2 will be played on Saturday and the third round on Sunday.
