Formidable Texas Tournament Next for Red Raiders|

LUBBOCK, Texas - If Texas Tech improves its standing at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate for the third-straight year, the Red Raiders will come home with first-place hardware. Texas Tech finished second in the event last year, bettering the team's 11th-place finished from the previous season.
The men's golf team heads to Austin for Monday and Tuesday's 54-hole event at the Austin Country Club. The tournament consists of 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday on the par 72, 6,906-yard layout. The Morris Williams is the first event for Texas Tech since participating in the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational in California on March 5-6.
This year's field features (23) Texas, (21) Auburn, (12) BYU, (67) Kent State, (60) New Mexico, (125) New Mexico State, (5) Oklahoma State, (101) Oklahoma, (45) Purdue, (30) TCU, (16) Texas A&M, (34) Texas Tech, (18) Tulsa and (8) UNLV. (Golfweek Rankings)
Oscar Floren, Andrew Dresser and Santiago Rivas each shot under par in last year's tournament to lead the Red Raiders to a five-under par showing. The trio finished in the top 10 with Floren carding a four-under 212 for a second-place tie.
Floren, the lone senior on the squad, once again leads the Red Raiders on the season with a sub-par average of 70.7 strokes per round. The All-American has three top 10 finishes to his credit this season and tied for sixth place at the Jerry Pate International for his best finish of the season.
Newcomer Matt Smith, who enrolled in January, has one tournament to his credit and averaged 72.3 strokes at the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate in February. Sophomore Garrett Merrill is averaging 73.2 strokes, while freshman Will Griffin checks in at 73.6. Santiago Rivas rounds out the lineup for the Red Raiders and is shooting at a 74.6 clip this season.
Jeremy Martin, who averages 77.9 strokes on the season, will participate as an individual.
