LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech fired rounds of 285 and 287 to take control of first place at the Sam Houston State Bearkat Classic in Montgomery, Texas.

Freshman Brooks Kelly (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) posted the two best rounds of his young career with a 70 and 69 and is tied in second-place with Cincinnati's Jim Herman. Kelly's two-round total of 139 shatters his previous 36-hole personal best of 145. UAB's Chris Devlin leads the event after shooting 69 and 68. He leads by two.

The Red Raiders also led following the first round. Baylor trails in second place by three strokes, while Texas-San Antonio is third. UAB is fourth, followed by Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas, Louisiana-Monroe, Rice, Southwest Texas, Stephen F. Austin, Lamar, Cincinnati, McNeese State, Southern Miss and Sam Houston State.

Sophomore transfer David Bolen (Austin, Texas) shot 69 and 73 and is in a tie in fifth place. Freshman Mark Hull (San Antonio, Texas) it tied in 18th, while freshman Trey Pyka (San Antonio, Texas) is tied in 32nd. Junior Corey Henegar (Austin, Texas) is in 81st place.

The tournament concludes Tuesday with 18 holes.
