LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech University men's golf team led the conference by placing four student-athletes on the 1999 Men's Golf Academic All-Big 12 Team.

Senior Philip Tate (Biology), junior Matt Pitts (Zoology) and sophomore Corey Henegar (Economics) were all selected to the first-team. Senior Alex Armstrong (Finance) was named honorable mention.

Tate leads the Red Raiders with a 76.1 stroke average and owns the highest finish on the squad this season with a sixth place showing at the Crown Classic. Henegar is right behind Tate with a 76.4 average. His best finish was a tie for 11th at the Crown Classic. Pitts had a 78.5 average and tied for 49th at the UTSA Invitational for his top finish. Armstrong's tie for 17th position at the Copy Systems Intercollegiate was his best showing of the year. He owns a 77.6 scoring average.

Nominated by the directors of student-athlete support services and the athletic media relations directors, members of the all-academic team have posted at least a 3.2 grade point average either cumulative or the previous two academic semesters and are regulars (letterwinners) on their respective teams. Student-athletes with a grade point average between 3.0-3.19 are listed as honorable mention academic all-conference.

Texas Tech will be in action again on April 26-27 at the Big 12 Conference Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas. The University of Kansas is the host school.
