LUBBOCK, Texas - The 2001-2002 season continues to be a rewarding one for head coach Greg Sands and the Texas Tech men's golf team. In addition to earning a spot to compete in the NCAA West Regional, the Red Raiders are one of seven U.S. college golf teams invited to compete Sept. 6-7 in the inaugural International Collegiate Tournament in Scotland.

The men's golf team received its first-ever honor in Texas Tech program history the opportunity to travel to Scotland in September to play against some of the best U.S. college golf teams and selected University teams from the UK.

"We're thrilled to get this opportunity to be one of the first schools to play in the first International Collegiate Tournament," said coach Greg Sands. "This trip will help Tech recruit top notched players around the country and the world. It will also help us compete in the Big 12 on a national level as well as an international one."

The International Collegiate Tournament is the first-ever official NCAA golf tournament to be staged in Europe. Texas Tech and Big 12 rival Texas A&M University are among the ten best U.S. college golf teams invited to play in a 54-hole tournament along with five University teams from the UK on the fabulous new 5-star golf resort in Scotland, St. Andrews Bay.

Along with Tech and A&M, the tournament field will consist of a select team from the British Universities (BUSA), the BUSA Champions (still to be decided), the University of Akron, Georgia Southern, the University of North Carolina, a select team from Oxford and Cambridge, a select team from R & A Bursars, the University of St. Andrews, Wake Forest University and Wofford College.
