No. 49 Tech Men's Golf Westbound for NCAA Regional
May 14, 2002 LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team heads west into the postseason to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete May 16-18 in its first NCAA Regional in six years. The Red Raiders enter the tourney as the No. 20 seed, putting its ranking on the line as they face off against several tough, top-ranked opponents that consists of mainly West coast teams. The 27-team field consists of (seeded from highest to lowest): Southern Cal, Texas, Minnesota, Fresno State, Washington, New Mexico, Pepperdine, San Diego State, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Ohio State, UCLA, Washington State, Cal Irvine, Pacific, UNLV, Stanford, Arizona State, Texas Tech, California, Brigham Young, Colorado State, Illinois State, Detroit-Mercy, IUPUI and Central Connecticut State. Seniors David Bolen and Kyle Willmann lead the Red Raiders into their first NCAA Regional appearance. The duo ended their regular season as Red Raiders accumulating a combined total of nine top 5s, nine top 10s and 11 top 20s. Willmann's second-round score of 64 in last week's tournament, The Maxwell, set three records for best individual career lowest round and best second round and lowest round ever in tourney's 11-year history.
