LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech golfer Nils Floren is among the quarterfinalists vying for the British Amateur Championship at Formby outside of Liverpool, England. The All-Big 12 Conference performer advanced to the quarters after finishing among the top 64 in stroke play and surviving four rounds of match play.

Floren, a native of Ljungskile, Sweden, carded rounds of 74-73 earlier in the week to advance to the match play rounds, where he opened with a 4 & 3 win over Sam Haywood of Rotherham. He followed with wins over Brydon Macpherson of Australia, Matthew Nixon of Ashton on the 23rd hole and James Byrne of Banchory.

Floren's match against Sunningdale's Stiggy Hodgson gets underway Friday at 9 a.m. local time.

Past notable winners of event include Sergio Garcia (1998), Jose Maria Olazabal (1984) and Bobby Jones (1930).
