LUBBOCK, Texas - The honors continue to pile up for Texas Tech's home golf course - The Rawls Course. The four-year-old links style track was ranked third among collegiate courses nationally in the latest issue of Turfnet magazine, a worldwide publication dedicated to golf course superintendents.

The recognition is the latest in a long list that includes mentions in Golf Week (No. 3 collegiate course nationally), Golf Magazine (No. 2 affordable course in the U.S. and No. 23 among the top 50 golf courses nationally for $50 or less).

Yale Golf Club topped the list, followed by Taconic Golf Course at Williams College and The Rawls Course, respectively. Ohio State's Scarlet Course, home to the 2002 NCAA Men's Championships, is fourth, while The Orchards at Mount Holyoke College is fifth. University Ridge Golf Course (Wisconsin), Stanford Golf Club, Colbert Hills (Kansas State), Warren Golf Club (Notre Dame) and the University of Michigan Golf Course round out the top 10.

The Rawls Course is the newest course on the list, while Colbert Hills opened in 2000. The oldest course is Mount Holyoke College's The Orchards, which opened in 1922. A photo of The Rawls Course also is featured in the two-page layout that can been viewed at www.turfnet.com in the July edition of Turfnet magazine.

The home to both Texas Tech men and women's golf teams, The Rawls Course has played host to the women's Big 12 Championships, the women's NCAA Central Regional and several USGA and AJGA events.

Jack North is the managing director at The Rawls Course and Eric Johnson is the course superintendent.
