Men's Golf Headed To Isleworth
Texas Tech opens play at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
October 9, 2012
The Texas Tech men's golf team is headed to play in the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla. The Red Raiders, along with the University of Central Florida, for the second year in a row will host the three-day event, which will span from Oct. 21-23 at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club.
In its ninth year of competition, the invitational will host a number of strong teams from all over, including 10 of the top 25 ranked teams in the country. Among the teams are Big 12 foes TCU and defending ICI champion Texas.
Other top ranked schools in the competitive field include Alabama, Arkansas, California, Illinois and New Mexico.
Last season, the Red Raiders struggled in the tournament, as they were not able to put together some solid rounds at the challenging course. But Tech will look to make a run at the ICI championship this year with a talented group who already has a third and fourth place finish under its belts in its first two tournaments of the season.
Since 2004 the ICI has hosted 15 of the top schools from around the nation in a three-day tournament, which attempts to replicate the feel of a real PGA tournament. By playing the invitational at Isleworth's, it gives them amateurs an added difficulty level, as the par-72, 7,544 yard course is consistently ranked as one of the hardest and longest courses in America.
The tournament will tee off at 7 a.m. CT, and live scoring will be available on www.golfstat.com. Be sure to check back at www.TexasTech.com next week for a complete recap of the tournament.
