LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Mark Hull (San Antonio / Churchhill) shot an even-round 72 during the final round to finish alone in fourth place and lead the Red Raiders to a fourth-place finish at the 1999 Deep South Intercollegiate at the Money Hill Country Club in Abita Springs, La, outside of New Orleans.

Southeastern Louisiana swept the field with a three-round 853, 11 strokes better than runner-up Marquette. Memphis finished third followed by Tech, Oral Roberts and Cincinnati in the top five.

Newcomers David Bolen and Brooks Kelly finished tied in 22nd and 32nd places, respectively, while Cory Henegar and Trey Pyka tied in the 39th and 59th spots. Hull turned in the best round of the event for Tech with a team-low 69 in the second round. He finished with a 214 total, four shots off of medalist Jacques Chevallier of SLU.

“This is a good finish for us,” Texas Tech Director of Golf Jeff Mitchell said. “We beat a number of our district teams which will fare well for us once regionals rolls around. I’m proud of Mark as a freshman, displaying poise and playing extremely well. David Bolen came back from an average first day, shot a 71 and passed some people. I’m proud of the whole team.”

Hull has two top 10 finishes to his credit in four collegiate tournaments. He finished in a tie for sixth place at the Crown Classic in Lufkin, Texas, in his first college event.

The Red Raiders compete in their final tournament of the fall season Nov. 8-9 in the Centenary Collegiate at the Olde Oaks Golf Club in Shreveport, La.
