Texas Tech's Philip Tate Tied for First at Crown Classic
November 6, 1998 LUFKIN, Texas - Texas Tech University senior golfer Philip Tate is tied for first with four other golfers after the first round of the 54-hole Crown Classic. The second round was not completed due to darkness and will be completed Saturday morning before the third round begins. Six teams did not finish their second round of play at the par-72, 6,692-yard Crown Colony Country Club. Tate, thanks to a 1-over-par 73, is tied with Stephen F. Austin's Lance Dunaway, Sam Houston's Phil Sinitiere, Rice's C.W. Mallon and UT-Arlington's Charan Thethy. The Red Raiders as a team are tied for 10th with Wichita State after the first round with a 25-over-par 313. UT-Arlington, with a 10-over 298, holds a four-stroke advantage over Tennessee (302). Baylor (308) is third, Rice (310) fourth and North Texas (311) fifth.
