Freshman Clement Sordet, from Nice, France, tied for second at the South Beach International Amateur, held in Miami, Fla. He was paired with this year's U.S. Amateur Champion Kelly Kraft who is currently ranked ninth in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Clement finished one shot behind Kraft and one shot ahead of his fellow countryman, Gary Stahl, who is currently ranked 14th in the WAGR.

Additionally, teammates Finley Ewing IV tied for 25th while Nathan Weant tied for 51st. Pierre Tillement missed the cut.

Texas Tech will open the spring portion of the schedule on Feb. 1, in Kona, Hawaii.
