Former Texas Tech golfer Oscar Floren turned in two solid rounds Tuesday (72-69--141) to tie for second at Gullane No. 1 Golf Course in Scotland and take one of three local final qualifying spots for the 2013 British Open.

Afterward, Floren tweeted on his official account @florengolf -- "Thanks for all the support today. Was a great finish to a long road trip. A few days at home before Scottish and The Open."

The Open Championship will take place July 18-21 at Muirfield Golf Course in England which is hosting the tournament for the 16th time.

Floren shot 3-under par and finished 30th at last week's Irish Open (66-71-71-77--285) and was 9-under and tied for 29th at the BMW International Open (68-70-70-71--279) the week before.

He turned pro in 2007 on the European Tour after a stellar career at Texas Tech where he was a two-time PING All-American.

Texas Tech sophomore Clement Sordet is in a tie for 17th at the British Amateur Championship following a 2-under par 70 in his second round at Prince's Golf Club in Sandwich Bay. Sordet shot a 3-over 74 on Monday in the first round of stroke play at Royal Cinque Ports, bringing his stroke play total to 1-over 144.

He made bogey on the ninth and doubled the 10th hole Tuesday but then recovered with birdies on three of his next five holes before making par on his final three.

Sordet will wait for the final groups to finish Tuesday before being seeded for the first round of match play which begins Wednesday morning at Royal Cinque Ports. Sordet made it to the round of 32 in last year's amateur.

Sophomore Henry Todd finished at 8-over par (151) for the championship after a 3-over 75 on Tuesday.
